The institution for art and culture at Novia University of Applied Science has set a goal to calculate the organisation’s carbon footprint in 2022. Spark Sustainability will provide them with the calculations, and then arrange a climate campaign for Novia’s employees, using the Carbon Donut app to get everyone onboard in reducing emissions.

The project is an example of Spark Sustainability’s new offering for businesses, which you can read more about here.

The collaboration between Novia and Spark Sustainability has three goals: to measure the institution’s carbon footprint, to get an understanding of how different choices affect this footprint, and to engage employees in the climate work to maximise the institution’s carbon reductions and carbon handprint.

“We’re looking forward to learning more about how our choices affect the organisation’s carbon footprint. We believe more knowledge about emissions will also help us empower our students to take climate action, thus increasing our carbon handprint“, says Håkan Omars, Head of the institution for art and culture.

The unique part of this project is that the employees will be involved: after the carbon footprint has been calculated, a climate campaign with the aim of reducing emissions kicks off. Spark Sustainability’s educational climate app, Carbon Donut, will be a key part of this campaign, using gamification methods to encourage learning and climate action.

The Carbon Donut app lets employees learn about the impact of different climate actions and find answers to frequently asked questions about climate change.

“The campaign will empower Novia’s employees to participate in the organisation’s climate work. With support from Carbon Donut, they will get a better understanding of how different choices affect the organisation’s carbon footprint”, says Anna Eriksson, CEO of Spark Sustainability.

The long-term goal of the campaign is to develop a sustainability culture, where climate-conscious decisions are an effortless part of the daily job and employees can come up with their own ideas for how to reduce emissions at work.
